چکیده

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the histopathological and immunohistochemical alterations induced by detrusor instability in the bladder of rabbits submitted to partial bladder outlet obstruction. Materials and Methods: Thirty male Norfolk rabbits were divided into 2 groups, a clinical control and a group with detrusor instability. Urine culture, cystometric study, histopathological and immunohistochemical analysis were performed in all animals prior to surgery (M1) and 4 weeks aftersurgery (M2). Results: Partial obstruction (G2) resulted in a 2.5 fold increment (p < 0.05) in bladder weight when compared to control (G1). Four weeks after surgery, 93% of animals in G2 developed cystitis. Partial obstruction resulted in detrusor instability at M2 and bladder capacity was significantly increased (p < 0.05) from M1 to M2. The incidence of mild to moderate mucosal and adventitious fibrosis at M2 was higher in G2 (p < 0.05) when compared to G1. Inflammatory reaction at M2 was statistically higher (p < 0.05) in G2. There was no difference in muscular hypertrophy between M1 and M2 in G1. However, 67% of G2 bladders showed a moderate to intense muscular hypertrophy at M2. Hyperplasia of the epithelium was also increased in G2 when M1 and M2 were compared (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Detrusor instability induced by partial bladder outlet obstruction caused significant histopathological and immunohistochemical alterations in the bladder of rabbits.

Phasic Contractions in Urinary Bladder from Juvenile versus Adult Pigs

AIMS Alterations in properties of the bladder with maturation are relevant physiologically and pathophysiologically. The aim of this study was to investigate alterations in bladder properties with maturation in juvenile vs. adult pig, focussing on differences between layers of the bladder wall (mucosa vs. detrusor) and the presence and functional contribution of interstitial cells (ICs). METH...

Expression of smoothelin in the normal and the overactive human bladder.

PURPOSE We established the expression pattern of smoothelin, a marker protein for contractile smooth muscle cells, in the human detrusor and investigated its possible impact on bladder overactivity. MATERIALS AND METHODS Detrusor samples of 13 overactive bladders (sensory urge and detrusor instability) were obtained before botulinum toxin injection and compared to those of 8 normally contract...

Detrusor instability; day and night time wetting, urinary tract infections.

Normal bladder function is the product of the complex interaction between storage and emptying. It requires a compliant bladder of adequate volume, and eVective sphincter and detrusor muscles with appropriately coordinated contraction and relaxation. Storage is facilitated by release of noradrenaline from the branches of the sympathetic nervous system stimulating contraction of the sphincters i...

Purinergic and Cholinergic Components of Detrusor Contraction in Partial Boo Banks

RESULTS After 3 weeks of partial BOO the rat bladders became significantly hypertrophied, doubling in weight. Spontaneous activity was markedly increased, but the contractile response to a single bolus of KCl (120 m M) was unaltered. The neurogenic-induced contractile responses of strips of detrusor from obstructed bladders were significantly greater than those from sham-operated bladders, and ...

Detrusor instability in men: correlation of lower urinary tract symptoms with urodynamic findings.

PURPOSE We evaluated the correlation of lower urinary tract symptoms suggestive of detrusor instability with urodynamic findings in men. MATERIALS AND METHODS Enrolled in our prospective study were 160 consecutive neurologically intact men referred for urodynamic evaluation of persistent lower urinary tract symptoms. All patients had storage symptoms suggestive of detrusor instability. Patien...
